Ours is a long time away but we are hoping it won't be more than 20k. We are going to start to save soon so we don't have to worry about it later.

Hi All,
Just got engaged and Im really annoyed at the prices hotels are charging for what is basically lets face it a carvery lunch! I think its about time Brides to be thought about what is being charged for what and put some pressure on these guys to get more realistic! I know its the most special day of our lives but really. I was a guest at about 6 weddings last year and none of the meals hit me as 50-80 euro meals without the wine! If I was handed that crap in a restaurant and charged 60 euro I would certainly hand it back. My aunt go married in 1999 not that long ago really and paid 12 irish pounds per person for the meal back then!
lets all get together and bring prices down!

Invites €400 (have got a quote for booklets and all for €200) saving €200 and thats them printed and all!!
photos and Video €2800 (have a quote for €1900) saving €900

Thats €3500+ Im saving. Im hoping to get my dress and my BM dresses in sales and I am going North for things also to try and save.

Totally agree with you Princessbride. Couldn't justify spending more than about €15k. We don't own a house yet, so we really want to keep as much as we can of our savings for a deposit. I guess we all have different budgets, hopefully our day will be just as special even though we're not spending a fortune.

the sad part is, we're not spending the money on "added extras", we have no ice sculptures, magicians, fireworks, favours, reception music.. we've haggled on everything right down to invites, and still our budget (including honeymoon) is looking at €30k...(although we are splurging a total of about €6k on honeymoon! :-8 )

when you consider cost, it really depends on the numbers attending... you can't compare a wedding of 50 people with a wedding for 250 people (in our case), so budgets just have to adjust to consider the numbers. A difference of 200 people at €70phead cost all in = €14k saving straight away... unfortunately, my family is so large, I'm only having about 20 of my own friends at it (10 friends and their +1), but can't wait for the big day!! :o)ll

best of luck to all the wollies budgeting.. it ain't an easy task!! *)

I agree with you Pink Ribbons, although we haven't sat down and got final number yet I'd say we will be looking at about 220 guests or more, which does bring the cost up when you have to consider food and drinks

Around 35k for 120 guests and honeymoon. Agree with Pink Ribbons, you can't compare a 300-guest wedding with an 80-guest wedding.
We chose a smaller wedding but with more expensive food and drink. No fancy extras, just the best of what we can get for the essentials. We've it all saved so are happy with our choice.

We booked our hotel for 6000, that includes the usuals plus 2 glasses wine and 1 champagne per person all evening food, bar ext and rooms for both sets of parents as well as our own. The room is fully set up with flowers, mirror centre pieces etc for that price. Fantastic deal, saved about 3 - 4 grand in comparison to other hotels I looked at. Ps thats for 120 guests.

We've budgeted about 15k for ours.
Its May 2011 and we've only organised our reception venue, church and photographer. Want to start doing more things now though but its so far away don't think I really can :o(

Ordinary hotel, no frills or extras, probably 250 guests and can't see us spending less than €25k (not inc honeymoon).
It's not ideal but the day's about more than just us and we don't resent spending the money.

you've hit the nail on the head Spring Chicken... the day's about more than just us O-O
