Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Hi,
We found out on Monday that my mam has Cervical Cancer she is only 46 has 3 children me and two bros only 8 and 18. We are now waiting on Biopsey then will do MRI to see what Stage it is it. She always has her smears done had normal smear 2007 slight abnormailites in late 2010 then had another one that needed further investigation but in the mean time she was having some abnormal bleeding so made appointment for hosp which was monday just gone. It looks like Hysterectomy(Which she doesnt mind) and then see what happens then the fact that they are suggesting OP first is a good sign as if it was at Stage 2 or 3 i think they have to do radio and chemo first to shrink it before removal but they seem to want to do removal first my hope im clinging to! She is devastated as we all are i can barely function i found out in work on monday had to get friend to come bring me home.First day back to work today have barly slept or ate since monday worst week of my life. Its just the uncertainty just want to know what stage it is at me being the internet addict i am i have been reading everything i can find i have it coming out of my ears now. Work today is a little distraction but not enough we all just feel like the word has come crashing down around us! Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Hyper I'm so so sorry to read this.
I don't know of anyone who was in a similar position, but like you said it's more positive that they're going in and getting it out first. I'm thinking of you xxx url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Firstly I am really sorry to hear this. Similar thing happened to a friend of mine recently and her mam seems to be doing very well with her treatments. You should contact the Irish Cancer Society's helpline for any questions/support you may need. My mam used this service a lot when her younger sister was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago - she's in remission now thank god
Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Sorry to hear the news.
The most important thing is to be positive about the whole thing. She's caught it early which is really important. Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Dont really know what to say only sorry to hear that and hopefully she will be fine
Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
While I don't know anyone who's had cervical cancer I sympathise with you and your family. It's a big blow to you all to hear it but the hysterectomy is a positive thing as you say. Please stay away from checking it out on the internet, they only ever seem to post the worst stuff and in the long run it's not going to give you much solace because you'll probably get a lot of conflicting information. as ohsotired said contact the Irish Cancer Society for info and support if you need it. And remember get it all out on WOL if you need to. Good luck with the journey ahead.

Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Very sorry to hear that but as others have said hopefully they've caught it early and can begin treatment straightaway.
Agree with this. The internet seems to have the worst case scenarios of everything! And great idea to contact Irish Cancer Society with any questions - at least that way you'll get proper advice and information of how best to help your mum through this. Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
I don't have any advice unfortunately.
Just wanted you to know I am thinking of you, I can only imagine what a scary time this must be for you. ---- AKA Maxi-Babe until we found out about our second little bundle of joy! ----
Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
Oh sweetheart. Thinking of you
Like other posters said, steer clear of Google! It's your worst enemy at a time like this. You will be drawn to the negative stories. I don't know anyone who has been through this but hope everything will be ok Re: Shocked & Devastated - Need Positive Stories
So sorry to hear, I remember when my Dad was diagnosed with cancer, the feeling of devastation is overwhelming and you feel like the whole world is carrying on as normal while your own life is crashing down. My Dad's story is not a good one however from my experience surgery wouldn't be offered unless they thought it would do some good. Either would chemo/radiation be offered. My Dad was at stage 4 so nothing would have helped and they agreed chemo would just have drained him of his last few weeks. You should be assigned a liaision officer in the hospital who can support you's and answer any questions you's have, and also your Mam's. We tended to talk to her rather than deal with the Irish Cancer Society, she knew our story and had access to my Dad's file so more often she knew more than we did and we didn't have to face telling the story to a stranger to get some info, which isn't specific to your Mam. Feel free to PM me if you feel the need to.
