We were in Oz in 2006 and 2007 so we both got a refund for 2007, probably would have gotten refund for 2006 if I'd applied for it last year, god darn it!! You can only request refund for the last 4 years. And DH was unemployed for half of 2009 so he got refund for then too. No harm in sending the letter in every few years for them to assess.

Just to clarify - if you earned below 26,000 in 2008, 2009 or 2010 and your wages fluctuated above 500 any week - if your wages is above 500euro any week - you are paying PRSI at class A1 - which is when the health levy kicks in. But if your cumulative wage at the end of the year is 26000 or less, then you are due this portion of the health levy back. In 2008 and 2009 the health levy was 2%, in 2010 it was 4%. The health levy doesn't apply to 2011 - it was replaced by the USC. So not all people who earned under 26000 are due a refund. Check your P60 - see if you have any weeks where you paid PRSI at class A1.

Very interested to hear that it also applies to people earning more than €26k, do you know how to qualify for this?

Just a question I was on Mat Leave in 2010 and eared normally up to June 2010 I paid €985.50 in A1 PRSI, but only earned 20950 as I was on reduced pay and then unpaid leave am I right in thinking I'm due something back? You seem to be a bit of an expert! :wv

Hiya's I haven't a clue about this sort of thing but would be very grateful if someone could help me out :-8 I definitely earn less than 26k a year so could this be worth my while sending the letter into them? Or do you have to be earning over that amount?

Thanks in advance. :-8 :thnk

scobette - sorry i didn't see this query - yes, you should be due this refund because you are under the 26000 threshold for 2010 but you would have been paying the health levy because you would have been paying PRSI at class A1 - i work in payroll software - and we've had so many of these queries over the last month. send in your letter and PPS number but don't expect quick reply - I'd say the DSP are inundated at the moment with this.
