PRSI Refund!!

PRSI Refund!!

Postby RainbowNinja » Fri Nov 11, 2021 11:42 am

got this in an email.. dont know how true is it, but no harm sending off letter in case!

Dear Colleagues,

Glad to share information with you that will hopefully bring you some benefit.

I have recently found out that everyone who was working in ROI in the past 4 years can claim PRSI refund( not tax! ). PRSI was counted incorrectly due to some error in the calculator in years 2007-2010.
It's not being advertised but it's being incorrectly calculated for everyone!!

The only thing you need to do is to write simple letter with an application for your refund to below address(include PPS number):
PRSI Refunds Section,
Department of Social Protection,
Oisin House,
212-213 Pearse Street ,
Dublin 2.
Payment for refund is done by cheque and it's being processed in 3-4- weeks.

I claimed a PRSI refund through taxback.com - from 2007 to 2011 I overpaid a massive €37.00!!!! Better than nothing i suppose!!

There was a calculator on the revenue website during the year - there was a link to it on WOL.. Anyways, I wasn't entitled to anything - mine were counted correctly it seems.

So, your not automatically entitled to money!

There was a similar email going around a few years ago but think you had to call that dept as opposed to writing a letter- I got a few hundred back! But others I know got nothing and a few owed a few quid back!

I rang Revenue yesterday to say we were married and wanted to be jointly assessed and I got a very helpful and competent lady on the phone (unlike the previous time I had phoned) and it turns out that for some reason DH hasn't been getting his PAYE tax credit since 2009 - so a few bob coming our way before Christmas now :o)ll

This is true! Just write a letter I got €90 back. It's only if you earned less than 26000 in a year. So you will get it if you earn less than this, were only working part of a year or were on maternity leave (I think!).

I sent a letter a few weeks ago for both me and DH but have heard nothing since. I was on Mat Leave in 2008 and he was unemployed in 2008 and 2009 so might be entitled to something!!

Just letting you all know that I know the tax refund area and this is not true. The main reasons you would be entitled to a refund are 1. If you were a medical card holder and paying the wrong rate or 2. if you were incorrectly paying it such as being in the wrong class or if you earn less than €26,000 but at some point in the year earned above your normal wage and was bumped up to a higher rate!

Hard to explain with PRSI but just in case any of you are hedging your bets on getting a refund you are definitely not guaranteed a refund! Sorry :o(

It's a refund on the health levy. Applicable to those who would have held a medical card between 2007 and 2010 but also paid the health levy (possibly added to PRSI in error) in any weeks they earned over €500. The annual ceiling is €26,000, therefore if you were paid over €500 on any particular week and as a result also paid the Health Levy but still earned less than €26,000 in the entire year, you may also be due the refund.

That email saying it is applicable to everyone is incorrect. As is the notion that there is one calculator calculating it all. Your employer (or yourself if self employed) calculates your PAYE, PRSI etc.

Hi,

I just rang them to ask and they said that this wasn't true... I asked if that was the case for everybody and they asked whether I had a medical card or had earned less than 26k last year I said no but I must check as I was on maternity leave.... Any way there is no harm in asking :eek

Heavens i'm more confused than ever! I dont meet any of the criteria, or the people I know who got a refund ???? something doesnt add up.....Sounds like the refunds are given on a random basis.

Just to let you all know about ten of us in my office have done it and we have all received a letter back with refunds ranging from €100 up to €400, people who got redundant and received pay got some back, people unemployed over a certain amt of time in the last four years (myself) got some back, one d girls who got married has medical card etc still got some back and then the normal workers received something back too.... its worth the chance. mine took roughly 7-8 weeks to get word back on and the cheque come the following day. Defo give it a go!!
