I just figured people who cooked like that knew they were bad cooks.

Most chefs (including my brother-in-law) will tell you that finishing a steak in the oven can actually work very well. It depends on the cut. A thin steak should never be placed in the oven. However, a thick cut steak can be quite tender after it's been finished in the oven. I don't always cook steak like this, but when I do, it's always delicious. And yes, I can cook. Very well too if I do say so myself.

I also agree with mammy2011 that some foodies are up their own arses.

I agree with lolabelle re the Catholic Church.

Lastly, my own personal unpopular opinion is that every woman should have the right to choose. Regardless of circumstance.

Mine are some of the holidays people go on.
Salou for a week? I would rather stay at home.
Same goes for many of the resorts, all inclusive packages, budget sun holidays, just absolutely not.
Same as the idea of a cruise. Nightmare.
And I have to say I love the sea and sun, but not like that.

I have to admit I'm the same with the Italian recipes. Pasta with creamy chicken ... sorry - nowhere in Italy will you find pasta with chicken let alone adding cream on top. Bruschetta is pronounced BRUSKETTA not BRUSHETTA and carbonara is never ever creamy. Its a peasant dish from the south of italy that's made with eggs and parmigiano (not parmesan - that's a makey up American word) oh oh and while I'm ranting pepperoni is the Italian for bell peppers not meat. What you get on your pepperoni pizza is actually called salame. Yes with an e salami with an i is another makey up American word. Phew Sandy thanks I needed that vent.

Really? Cool, I learned something new today! Thanks!

Here's one of mine, a topical one - I think people should pay the household charge. We've paid three, for our home & two rental properties. And I don't agree that people renting should be exempt from the tax, they too should contribute to their community. That charge is supposed to be a payment for community services - whether it will be used for that or not is besides the point when deciding who should pay it. I don't understand people who act as if taxes are some al a carte option.

I agree. I have to drive past a "common" area to get into town and as long as I'm doing it there's the same scroungers standing outside talking all day. Get off your hole and get a job.

I can tell you, your unpopular opinions are proving very popular with me! I agree with almost all of you. Especially that women should have the right to choose!

Edit: Given how awful this thread has become I have to retract what I said about agreeing with people, it started out kind of funny but now it's just deteriorated to horrible mud-slinging.

Purely out of interest, how do you cook steak and how do you like to eat it?

Mmmm lets see, for my own 2 cents, I don't think any male/female friendship is 100% platonic!! I think there will have been a stage in most of these relationships where one person has fancied the other at least slightly and probably only temporarily.
