Evening All,

Two quick questions for any past or future Dubrovnik brides. (1) Did you offer your guests an evening food reception? Our dinner will take place between 7-9 in the evening so I figure at that stage they should be pretty full for the rest of the night but would appreciate any thoughts on it. (2) Did anyone have a BBQ before of after their wedding day? We're looking for something quite informal and relaxed the day after the wedding that would be something similar food-wise to an Irish BBQ like burgers, chicken, ribs etc. Any suggestions on locations would be great.

Thanks,

Powergirl

Tans2012 we held our reception on the terrace in Hotel Croatia, I'm not sure if it's called the spinaker terrace but if you want some details I just got all our photos yday, pm me and I can send you a load of pics. I would highly recommend the hotel. I was a bit nervous too because it wasn't one of the more regularly used ones but I have to say they came through sooo well for us, I didn't have a single thing I could fault them on. I'm going to write a v detailed report soon (I keep promising I will but not getting round to it) and I'll give all the hotel info then too.

Hi,

Just wanted to ask if anyone planning or has planned their wedding with Dubrovnik Events used a videographer? Ined has recommended these guys: http://max.tportal.hr/DUBROVNIK--VSP-VI ... l_179.aspx and I just wanted some personal feedback on them.

Thanks in advance !

Hi Star, congratulations on your plans! Your best resources will be Ines and this thread. Read the thread for an idea of how things work, but the summary is that Ines will sort it all for you. She sorted everything you mentioned and more for us with no hassle in the slightest, it's all in a day's work for her! In my experience, there were some things that we were particular about and she sorted them to a t, the others we just gave her a vague idea (like the decoration) and she did a much better job than we could have. :o0

The photographer she uses is Veronica Arevalo who is amazing. Here are a few links to get you in the mood:

http://www.dubrovnikevent.com/flash.html
http://dubrovnikweddingsandevents.blogspot.com/
http://veronicaarevalo.com/
http://www.veronicaarevalo.blogspot.com/

The best thing about Ines is that she's so quick to reply to emails, we were two years planning and the amount of times I emailed her was something else, but she never complained.

Thanks very much!
Ines has been great with answering emails and she never seems to mind!
we were at a wedding fair in the rds and i think i just panicked a bit cause there were so many stands for photographers bands etc and none of them were relevant for us so just got worried about how to go about it all from a different country!
can i ask what you did for music? we were thinking a dj cause thought there'd be a better chance of music we want then but a band kind of gives a better atmosphere?
our date is 31st august 2013 in the grand villa argentina, just loved the photos of the gardn for the ceremony!
thanks for the reassurance! :wv

Hi, ladies. I’m planning a civil ceremony and celebration for September 3, 2022 in Hvar. Have only just started the process and am looking for tips and info as it’s nearly impossible to find anything on the Internet. We have a smallish budget and expect 40-50 people. Need to choose a ceremony and reception location but have only seen 4 ideas from a planner who contacted me. Should I contact hotels and other venues directly? We’d also like to host a welcome dinner and excursion of some sort but don’t know how to budget without a starting point. Wondering about average cost of photography, band, reception rental, food and open bar, etc. I’d love to share my tips with you as I learn as long as you don’t go too hard on me for being an American. :-8

Hi StarLilly, alidxx & HvarSept2012

Great to see brides posting on this thread again! :)

I am getting married on 2nd August in St. Ignatius with reception in the Hotel Excelsior for about 30 people. :xox

alidxx, definately go out for an inspection trip. We both loved the excelsior when we saw it online but felt it was a bit out of the budget, however when we saw it in person we knew we couldn't have the reception anywhere else. We booked a menu tasting while we where there which they gave us for half price as we were considering it as a venue!

StarLilly, the Argentina is beautiful in person!!!! the gardens are lovely and it has a fab view of the old town!

I am going through Kristina in Dubrovnik Luxury Weddings and she has been great. She is quick at responding to emails, has some great ideas and nothing is too much trouble, everything is possible!!! I understand from this thread that Ines from Dubrovnik Events is excellent too.

We have booked the band Teatar for our wedding, we wanted a band as opposed to a dj as we felt it would get people up and dancing. The only downside to the excelsior is that the music has to finish at 11pm outside but you can take the party inside after this or down to the beach bar next door. From talking to past brides, Teatar seem to be like a good irish wedding band, heard some old soundbites, thought they were a little cheesy but loads of fun. We decides to book them based on their reputation, I hope we were right :)

My next big thing to tackle is the church and legal documents :eek if anyone has and advice on how to make this process as painless as possible I would love to hear it, I hate paperwork!!!

I am still looking for something to do the day after the wedding, like a bbq or a boat trip. If anyone has any ideas or is planning something themselves I would love some advice.

Happy planning ladies :wv

Congrats to all the new brides!

ExcitedFi, I don’t know if this is a possibility in Dubrovnik, but we’re thinking we may take our guests on a winery tour/wine tasting the day before our wedding. For you, a boat ride might be more appropriate, but since our guests will have already taken a 2-hour ferry ride to get to us, we’ll skip that. We may also do a short hike up to the fortress on top of Hvar Island or, alternately, do a cave tour and combine it with lunch. Everyone I talk to says Dubrovnik is stunning, so you won’t go wrong. Perhaps take them to a setting they won’t see or experience the day of the your wedding?

Hi alidxx

We are having the boat cruise. When we were over last September we saw a wedding DLW had planned and saw the boat they used. It looked fantastic, loads of fun! We are getting the cruise from the harbour around the island and back in. It lasts about an hour. Some of my guests are really excited about it.

You have plenty of time to decide though. I will post loads of pictures in August :D

Hi ladies!!

I'm really glad this is getting going again!
I'm afraid i have no advice on paperwork, we decided we're having a symbolic ceremony instead because we didnt want our service in croatian or all the extra expense of paying for translation. it didnt seem too complicated though, are you using a wedding planner Excited Fi? they should be able to sort all that out for you.

Does anyone know what exactly happens at a registry office in Ireland? we want to be legally married before we go but our wedding in croatia is going to be the real thing for me, rings and vows and the dress, all that! dont want any of that in the registry office cause wont feel as special to me i think but i dunno what actually happens?

As for next day plans, our wedding planner was trying to push a boat trip for the day with bbq etc on us but it costs about €40 per person and we just cant afford it! getting married abroad is not working out much cheaper!
I love the idea of a boat trip after the ceremony and before the meal though, something for the guests.
We're going over the end of March to pay our deposit, meet wedding planner and have a little look around as neither of us have been to Dubrovnik before! thanks so much Excited FI for saying the argentina is lovely, have been worried that when we got over there it'd be a big disappointment!

Other than that i feel a very calm bride though! this time next year could be a very different story though! :)

Hope all is well ladies!

And Excited Fi, how did you hear about bands over there?
That is one thing i've been a bit stressed about, have seen no advertisements for wedding bands or dj's for dubrovnik. we were thinking of a dj because cheaper and thought more chance of music being played that you want but i think a band does give a better atmosphere?
And can i put this out to everyone, is it possible to negotiate prices on anything? i have 2 friends getting married here this year and they seem to be getting the prices down on anything and everything!
Thanks for any adivce!
