Croatia brides thread

Re: Croatia brides thread

Postby Memory » Tue Mar 13, 2022 10:44 pm

Hi Girls,
We are thinking of getting married in Croatia (2013). Havent decided for sure yet though. Were thinking Malta first, but venues there are nothing in comparison to Croatia, so Im checking things out here. I contacted a couple of organisers - wanted to compare their prices.
I really liked Valla beach club in Palace hotel - anyone been there??
We are also thinking just to have a DJ without a band, also may be some entertainers - no idea though what would be nice...
Croatia seems to be much more popular than others - 82 pages in this thread!!!
Looking forward to your replies

Hi StarLilly, alidxx, ExcitedFi & HvarSept2012 (and anyone else who I may have missed!)

I'm getting married in Dubrovnik on June 16th this year (3 months today!). We are getting married at the Sponza Palace with a boat trip to Lokrum Island after, with drinks on the Island. Then reception at The Excelsior, for 40 guests. We are using Kike from Do You Wed Me, who has been really good so far.

Am starting to get really excited as we have signed the contract, paid the deposits and are just sorting out the nice things like flowers and table decorations etc. We went over in February 2011 to look at venues and saw the Grand Villa Argentina (which was lovely and you can have music at the venue until 2am, whereas the Excelsior is 11pm/12am) but fell totally in love with The Palm Terrace at The Excelsior so opted for that instead.

Fingers crossed, everything has been very low stress so far and Kike looks to have everything under control.

HvarSept2012 - I went to Hvar 2 years ago and it really convinced me to get married in Croatia. There are some fabulous venues in Hvar Town (the castle and also we saw a wedding at an amazing seafront restaurant next to the Amfora Hotel). The only thing that made me hesitate about Hvar is the lack of an airport. I'm not sure if you have been there? But I didn't want to ask my guests to fly out to Croatia and then have to wait around for a ferry and coach or Hovercraft. If you could get a taxi or something from the airport to take them door to door, that might work. Dubrovnik has an International airport about 25 mins drive from the town centre and the venues are amazing too!

Would love to hear how the rest of you ladies are getting on with your planning! :)

Hi ladies !!

Memory: we were in exactly the same psition as you, we were going for Malta and the planners we contacted were great with informatuon but we just didnt like any of the venues-nothing what we had in mind! then Ines from Dubrovnik Events sent us pictures of the gardens in the Grand Villa Argentina and we knew it was exactly what we both imagined for our wedding day! the only thing is, Malta seems much cheaper for a wedding than Dubrovnik but i hope and plan to negotiate prices wherever i can! :)

Nik: your wedding is so close, congratulations!! Lokrum is supposed to be fantastic.
I dont really have solid plans-we're going over in 2 weeks to pay our deposit and have a look at the venues to make sure we're 100% set on them. i've a few dress appointments booked as want to spend the money on that this year to take some pressure off next year-and its fun! :yelrotflmaosmilie:
I already know what colour scheme i want and what flowers, havent chosen bridesmaid yet but my god-daughter will be my flower girl hopefully-she'll be two & a half which i'm a bit worried is too young?
my wedding is ages away though-31st August next year so dont think i need to be stressing too much! whn i read back through this thread though it seems theres a million things to do all in the last few months! you seem pretty relaxed though Nix!

Can i ask what boat you're using Nix and what you're doing for music for the boat and for the reception?

Hope to hear about the plans girlies! :wv

Hi Ladies

Welcome new brides!!! I am getting really excited reading about all your plans :) :o)ll

Nix, 16th June, that is getting really close now!! Are you pretty much sorted with flowers, decorations etc at this stage? How have you found the paperwork? I have not had to tackle that yet. Has it been pretty straightforward with the dfa or is there alot to do? That is the only thing out of this whole process that I am worried about.
Are you having a band or DJ at the reception?

StarLilly, not long until your trip to Dubrovnik, when are you going out? I hope you have a great time!!! Please let us know how you get on when you get back. About the band, we are going with Teatar purely on recommendation from our planner and the small bit of info I could find on past posts on this thread. We wanted a live band rather than dj because we thought it would create a nicer atmosphere on the day and get people up dancing, this has been the riskiest decision we have made but we trust Kristina. You still have loads of time to sort this, we only booked the band around christmas time, I will let you know what they are like after the big day!! :)

I got my bridesmaids dresses last week (after much searching) hurray. I am now having fun sorting decorations, flowers and church music at the moment :)

I hope you are all enjoying your bank holiday weekend

Hey all,

Hope everyone's planning is going well!

We holidayed in Dubrovnik in Sept 2010 and absolutely fell in love with the place so much so that we are planning to get married in Croatia summer 2013. Of course, we plan another visit this summer to choose a venue and wedding planner etc.

If anyone has any comments or recommendations on anything they would like to share, look forward to your thoughts.

Happy planning :yelrotflmaosmilie:

Hello brides !!

Well unfortunately we're back home from our first trip to Dubrovnik-i barely slept the night before i was really nervous-what if we hate dubrovnik, what if we hate the venue and everywhere else is all booked up, what if we dont get on with Ines, what if its all a big scam... i think the fact we had to get up at 5am for the flight wasnt helping !!

BUT... it was all for nothing !! Absolutely loved it !! :o)ll
Weather was great too. thoughht the town was beautiful, so clean, such history, the water is so clear... everything was brillaint !! :) :)
Delighted with our venue choice, we met our photographer and met the chef,(who gave us a plate full of fresh macaroons!) :)
we spent 3 hours with Ines and Marin, and they were so nice, really chatty and friendly and personable-relaxed me so much, have no doubts of their capabilities. Veronica was lovely aswell, H2B isnt a fan of photographs, especially posed ones so Veronica's attitude about the natural photos of the day really relaxed him, she showed us some beautiful story book albums.

So i'm really hapy with everything and wedding excitement has fully kicked in now !! :o)ll

ExcitedFi, we think we might go with a dj because we're spending alot of money on the boat trip so would just cut costs a bit for us, but we're still going to listen to some mp files, from the rest of the thread that band seem to be highly recommended !!

Are all you ladies getting married properly out there or are any of you doing it symbolically and doing registry office here for the legal bit?

Happy planning !!

Hi Girls,

Well it's all starting to become quite real now! Off on my Hen do next weekend and getting very excited about that! O-O

We have opted to have a string quartet for before and after the ceremony and a DJ at the reception. The band came very highly recommended, but H2B and myself are very into our music and wanted to be able to work with a DJ to put certain songs that have meaning for us into the evening's events! Paperwork is going OK, just wish that it wasn't all such a last minute (with them having to be within 3 months of the date etc.)!

Starlilly - glad you enjoyed your trip! Have you made any decisions re: venues etc?

Speak to you all soon,

Nix x

Hi, everyone! Congratulations to the 2012 Croatian brides! I’m excited to hear how everyone’s planning is coming along.

I started working with a wedding planner for my Hvar event but am having 2nd thoughts and am wondering whether anyone else has had this issue – it seems that planners (because of how they are compensated) only work with a few venders. And so I feel that my options for the ceremony and reception sites are very limited. So far, I don’t love any of them, and I don’t know what to do. Strike out on my own? Insist my planner find more than 2-3 options for me? The ceremony sites aren’t bad, but they’re not great either. We don’t want to get married on a beach, or outside of a church in town. I told her that we preferred a building or ruins that had a view – something on top of the island perhaps – but she’s only shown us three options that are not part of a hotel. My guess is that these are the only vendors that work with wedding planners, and that is why I’m not seeing other options. Because if she offers up anything else she knows that they won’t pay her for her services. Am I right? Has anyone else been less than satisfied with your options for a place to wed or celebrate? I don’t know what to do. Our wedding is supposed to be late September and with no venues booked, I’m getting anxious.

Thanks for any words of advice!

Hiya HvarSept 2012,

First of all my advise would be that its one of the most important days in many girls' life (ever since we were little girls dreaming of a prince) and if something you are not entirely happy about - you should look around. There are a number of cool websites that give you lots of options just to browse. You can just go wedding venue Dubrovnik and click on google images and you might stumble upon something you like.
I changed my initial wedding organiser (from another country) in fact I changed the country over that as I didnt like the venues plus I learnt that I was getting ripped off.
However do consider that most wedding venues would either be cooperating with leading organisers or else advertising on their own, so I'm sure you are shown most of the available wedding venues.
i would consider it very hard to be organising a wedding in a foreign country by myself and would think that it would cost me more in a long run flying up and down, however if you are not happy with the venue - change it and perhaps a country, that would be my opinion...

BTW, did you consider contacting more than one organiser? It costs nothing to compare.. I have contacted 2, got quotes from both, spoke to both of them on Skype and then chosen one that I felt was most genuine, it doesn't cost anything to talk to a number of them...

Hi Ladies, havent been on this in a while as ive my wedding booked and counting down the weeks.

Getting married 16th June in Cavtat, same day as Nix!!!

Im using DLW and working with Paula, she has been great, I havent had to stress over anything, we are having a church wedding, but we have to have our civil ceremony in Ireland first which is going to happen a week before we go to Dubrovnik. All our paperwork was completed by us on time, but the church only sent it to the Bishop in Croatia the other day and apparently that is normal and nothing to worry about.
We are not exchanging rings at our ceremony, its being kept really low key with just the witnesses and ourselves, sign the paperwork and wait until the 16th for the big exchange of rings & vows.

All excited about it now, only thing that has been a huge stress is our guests not booking their flights on time as Aer Lingus keep putting them up daily! theyve gone from 157pp to 354pp....so I would advise to give your guests lots of notice and tell them how quickly the flights go up!!!!
Weve ended up not having the full amount of people there that we wanted as the flights got too much. But we still have 62 at the moment that have booked their flights and accomodation.

Hope everyones plans are coming along well and smoothly.........so excited xx

To all past amd present Dubrovnik brides:

Did any of you have a boat trip on your wedding day? did any of you use the Galleon-the big wooden boat? just have some questions about that.

How's everyone's plans coming along?
