this is probably a silly question but do you have to have a really good SA to be recommended for IUI. DH got results today and his count was 17millon and Motility 40%?

Hi girlsI am so upset today we got the news that DH has antisperm antibodies. We must meet my doctor next week and then we will know what next. But of course I have been on google and most sites say besieds dh taking high doses of steroids IVF or ICSI looks like the way to go. We started trying to conceive 21 months ago in july 2009. We got pregnant in march 2010 and had a missed miscarriage early on. its been a year so we did some blood test and a SA and my results are fine. I have a DD already before I met DH. I am devestated though as we have wasted so much time already.

I am 26 and DH is 27 so Im hoping this will help us somewhat.

Have any of your DHs had antibodies?

What next?

Hi Ladies,
I've just been looking at starting accupuncture and maybe this has been mentioned on here before, but there are lots of studies showing the amazing effects of accupuncture on male fertility issues aswell. In particular there was a marked improvement in sperm count and motility. Just thought it might be worth a shot. I was looking at this site
http://www.meridian-acupuncture-clinic. ... ility.html but I'm sure any clinics that work with infertility would be the same.

Hi ladies,
I was thrilled to find this topic was being discussed and a source of information and advice. I Came off the pill october 09 and have been TTC since then. We have both had a very stressfull year and was putting that down as the cause of no pregnancy. I'm 36 this year and decided it was time to get tested. Have been speaking openly with family about wanting to have a family. DH kept telling everyone he had olympic swimmers- gold medalists in fact.
Just found out the other day that I'm fine but his gold medalists are a little absent. He's devestated
We have to go back for a second round of SA. I wish the problem was with me. I think I'd be able to handle it better.

Hi Married Bliss,

We also found out last May that my DH has low count on motility and % volume of good shape and size sperm etc. Like your hubby mine was devastated and still on occassions get very fed up. My heart goes out to him like you I would rather it was me as I hate to see him in pain.

I've had all the different tests done and I'm grand. In the last year, pre visit to fertility clinic, two different doctors told us my hubbies test results were grand therefore we both assumed it was a problem with me! So we were shocked when the consultant informed us of my DH'S poor results. However, my DH smokes and he wouldn't be the healthiest so we left with strick instructions that the smokes had to go as did the coffee!!! It took him a good 2 weeks to get his head around it and accept that some changes had to be made. I was delighted to read on this thread of other men changing lifestyles with very positive outcomes. My DH is off the smokes 6 weeks(very proud of him) and drinking Decaff (hates it). He even talking about doing acupuncture - this coming from a real country man who previously declared that stuff as mumbo jumbo / touchy feely stuff. We heading back for follow up tests in early September and we are hopeful that there will be an improvement.

Just got results this morning that my husbands sperm count is very low, too low to do in depth analysis. The sperm that were available were normal though. To say we're upset is an understatement. I'm trying to be strong for him because I know seeing me upset will be more upsetting for him. It's very scary to think that we're probably going to have to go down the very long and expensive road of IVF. His test needs to be repeated but due to a condition he has it's unlikely to change. Just so much to take in but at least we have an answer now as to why it was taking so long and in a way it kind of takes the pressure off us now trying on our own. Never thought it would be us going on this journey but have to face up to it now if we really want a baby.

Hi royalicing.
My husband was also diagnosed with azoospermia, he had a TESE done and they did find sperm, but the motility was very poor and there wasn't the normal volume there, but they did get enough to freeze 3 strands. They have told us he has a 'blockage' somewhere and there is nothing can be done about it.
On a positive note: we used one strand from the biopsy in January 2010 for our 1st ivf (icsi) attempt and now have a beautiful 8 month old baby girl.
Hope this helps u

Its great to hear some positive news catmad...
Last week we just found out that we are going down the ivf /icsi route. My husband had DNA frag test done with high frag of 24%.. I am wondering is there many of dh's who had dna frag done.... I am ttc 2 years and reality has hit home now :o( Never actually believed that we would have to go ahead with IVF - always hoped and still hoping that i would get bfp

Hi Homebird

Glad to hear your hubby is making changes - its so important that they give it every chance they can.
My DH had biopsy and scope done before we decided the donor route was our only chance.
However since then a friend of mine told me about her success with acupuncture - told she was infertile and just had a baby!

So DH is now going every week and is also drinking some herbs every day - Chinese Doc said to give her 8wks and get another SA done and if there is an improvement to stick with her if not go donor route again. He is off the drink and she also said not to have spicy food (not sure if anyone esle on here has been told that)
Will keep you posted - anything would be an improvement for us from Zero sperm.

Hi Girls :wv
Can I join ye here. I had initial bloods tests done and everything was fine at this stage. Hubby then had SA done and we got the results this week. Although count and mobility fine his morphology was 3% and doctor recommended fertility clinic and ivf/icsi route.Poor hubby is so depressed! I am a bit shocked as like you CElover we never thought I would be going down this route. Have to go back to doc for some more tests before we can go on to fertility clinic in Galway. What annoys me was it took 5 monthhs to get the SA appointment and now all that time is wasted O:| So glad this thread is here. It is great to talk to girls in the same boat.
