Donating breastmilk for premature/sick babies

email address doesnt work. its a small office. phone is best

after each donation you get a card with details of where your milk went to. just basic story - no names or locations obviously. one of my cards had "your milk is gone to help some premature twins and a baby with twisted gut syndrome". at the end (when they knew it was my last donation) i got a pin (like the fainne rings but it was in teh shape of a drop of milk and think it had "every drop counts" written on it).

oh yeah, you should have seen me when they'd send the newsletters! very emotional stories in there! The front of the thank you cards have EVERY DROP COUNTS and a picture of a big drop of milk - that alone used to set me off!!! as its only a small amount the premies can even talk so literaly every drop you can send counts.

Thanks for posting your story soon to be mrsc it's lovely to hear the other side. Hope your lo is doing well.
LMB I got a note to say my milk had gone to 6 premature babies in Dublin. It also said my milk had a very good fat analysis and would be good for helping the babies put on weight. I was thrilled to get that info.
It really makes you feel so proud.

Ladies please keep up the good work you are doing.
My lo's were born at 32 weeks so they were fed donor milk for a few days till my milk came in. We are so grateful that we had the choice which we wouldn't have had unless you ladies so generously donated xxx

Girls, how long did it take for ye to receive those notes from the milkbank? I sent off 2 batches of milk - one in Sept and one in November and haven't heard back yet. I do know that my milk was received as I spoke to the girls in the office after I posted the milk off. I'm curious to know where my milk went, and if I'm honest I'm also wondering about the cost of the postage (awful I know, but my OH is out of work and I'm on unpaid mat leave now so money is a bit tight).

Got refund for postage two days later I'd say they have just made a little error. I'd give them a ring :wv

Thanks polkadot. I rang last week and my details are in the pending tray. Anne has been out sick I think, so they have a bit of a backlog.

Sent in my first donation today, 100oz from my freezer :o)ll they sent me the box & bloods kit & the box had 12 7oz bottles in it! Gonna take a while to fill them but I'm delighted to help. I would never have known about the milk bank only for this site. No mention of it in hospital at all. My dd was born after an emergency section & so my milk was delayed coming in. She got dehydrated as a result & dropped weight quickly. As a result she was given formula for a day which I hated. Felt like I had already let her down at 3 days old. I know technically she wasn't sick but was delighted to come to the m&k forum & find that parents who have sick babies have the option of getting donor milk :lvs

well done! it's such a great feeling.

I got a lovely card back a few weeks ago saying my milk and blood were great and went to help two babies in neo natal. I also donated my postage to them as they're non profit so they told me they spent it on new date stamps for envelopes which was really nice of them to let me know.
