The Fantabulous DIY Wedding Thread

Re: The Fantabulous DIY Wedding Thread

Just wondering if any of you DIY brides have considered doing up their own album. I made mine on photobox, using photos from the photographer.

I probably will make up my own album, it depends on the cash left in the budget after the wedding. I scrapbook anyway, but i'm not sure that will look professional enough... it might be nice to do my own informal scrapbook style album, and get the photographer to do one up for me.

I definitely want to do my own guestbook, one slightly different to the plain signature ones.

My idea is to leave pre-printed guest book pages on each table, with a random selection of instructions, like: 'give the couple one piece of advice for the future', or 'draw a picture of the couple' or 'what are your wishes for the couples future' 'predict the date of their first child' etc etc, and leaving some pens and colouring pencils on each table. I think that will be nicer in years to come than a book of signatures :)

Seashelly: we're seriously considering doing our own album and I've looked up photobox. Is it easy to use? We have a professional photographer who'll give us all images on CD, so would love to give it a shot! (gonna be really cheeky and ask if you fancied sharing some photos of the album if you've got them) Is the quality good?

Akashla: you should really set up your own thread! You're coming out with some amazing ideas. I :lvs the guestbook idea! It sounds like it would be a great ice breaker for the tables! Where did you pick up the idea from? Ever considered doing a blog? I'd say you'd be fab!

Quality is great and I'm really happy with it. (Make sure the photos on the cd are high res - mine is A3 size, so some of the pics are big). I don't have pics of it, but I could take some.

Akasha, my idea for guest book is a wishing tree/wishes tree. I hope to print out gift tags with envelops and then guests write their message, put it in the envelope and tie it to the tree. I have a white fibre optic tree that I use at Christmas and I was going to decorate it with the same colour theme of my wedding.

Thank you Angel Butterfly *blushes*
I spend a lot of my time thinking "wouldn't it be wonderful if...." and then figuring out how to do it on my shoestring budget :)

2nd timer, that's a lovely concept! It sounds really pretty...

I'm trying to figure out some nice ideas for favours, and the seating plan. I want to do something different, but haven't given it much thought yet...

Hi shazzak..
Candle holders? Well himself is, not me, but he plans on using any type of wood to make shoulder height candle holders. I got muslin/net type material in Ikea that he is going to staple this to the top, grasp it half way to make a bustle of sorts and then let it drape to the ground. I think he is stablising it on the bottom with squares of wood and the top will have a square of wood for the candle to sit on. I presume he'll put a nail or something sticking up to hold the candle.

We went to a few places for quotes to hire and he said 'sure I can make as good myself'. I think I'll push him this weekend to get started and post photo's up. Maybe I can hire them out?? O-O

Oh they look lovely shazzak. What size are they? Are they scrolls?

I'm going plain enough for invites, in that it is like a birthday card but with no ribbons etc. It's the envelopes that will have personalised stuff on it. I'm doing a stripes/dots kind of look so am matching my place cards with it. I like this look. Also I'm doing a candy buffet and wish tree so have cards/posters for them with the same stripes/dots. On the place cards they are postcard size and on the back I plan to write the persons name/meaning and origin that I found on the internet. I have them as stickers at the moment but am waiting until I get the actual place cards to see what that's like. Otherwise I may have to write them, which is why i'm doing this well in advance. My guest list is already finalised unless my sis gets a +1!!

They're lovely shazza k :)
Well done! Are they the way you imagined, or did you enhance as you went along?

2ndT, a love the style, really pretty! Are you having a similar colourscheme?

Just thinking, I also did DIY robes for my SIL's wedding recently. Got robes from penneys' then ironed on diamontees that I got from ebay. They worked out great. Unfortunately I won't need them myself but may do pj's for the morning. Wasn't too expensive.

Another DIY idea... I'm decorating my own bay trees that I have outside my front door with some flowers & ribbons to have at the front door of hotel. Should have enough ribbon left over from favours and I'll order a couple more silk flowers when I order my flowers. :o0 :o0

thanks akashla. I had something completly different in mind then i saw a template on weddingchicks.com that i liked the style and copied that then came across a few other styles I liked bits of too so this is an imagilmation of about 5! took a while but I got there. and then when id done i asked mums opinion (big mistake) she wasnt mad on them. i had orriginally wanted pink calla lilies on my invites (as this is the flowers im having ) and she said i should have stuck to that so i looked at it again yesterday and come up with this.

what you think girls A B or C

theyl by a third of a ladscape page postcard style no fold

PJs with the iron on diamontied is a brill idea 2nd timer

My wedding candles are a little plain so am thinking of decorating them also with a few diamonities and tiny cala lilies??

The one with the love birds on it would be my fave. My mother has shot down a few of my ideas too, I think at the end of the day it's your wedding so if you really love something just go with it.
