Motivation thread for losing weight...

Motivation thread for losing weight...

Postby reine » Wed Oct 19, 2021 9:44 pm

I know there are a few of these threads around, but I haven't seen one in Off Topic in ages (maybe I'm blind?!). Anyway, the time has come... I can no longer carry on kidding myself that I can still fit into my size 10s and I really need to face the fact that I'm closer to a 14 now!

I'm really not happy with myself and my weight at the moment and need to lose nearly 2 stone. I have absolutely no willpower though, so thought if a few of us did it together, it might help us.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey Reine,

I ament really trying to lose weight so much as I'm trying to get fit, tone up and hopefully the added bonus is shifting the extra 5lbs I've added on over the past 6 mths!

I'vejust joined the gym last week, bit of a shock to the system for someone who couldn't remember her last bit of exercise! I'm also trying to cut out the vino during the week and limit it to weekends and trying to just have one blow out day foodwise as opposed to the whole weekend!

So while I won't really be weighing myself religiously or anything I wouldn't mind a thread for healthy eating and exercise motivation!

Have you any plan for exercise etc or starting with healthy eating etc?

Oh I need a kick up the *rse. I am in a serious rut ands need to cop on and lose weight asap. I've taken the postive step and quick smoking (again :-8 ). Two weeks off them now and I really don't want to fall off the wagon. I have BILs wedding in December and have to get a dress. No way will I be a lot slimmer by then but at least I hope to have made a start.

I tried Lipotrim before but couldn't cope on 400 calories a day! Does this diet centre around deprivation, because I couldn't hack it? I need a diet that's sustainable. I have a looooonnnnngggg road to lose this weight.

I have to say girls, since getting married nearly 3 years ago i have put on around 20 pounds :-8 ... and while for a few months i have gone down 5 pounds... then back up 7 pounds .. and so on... I’ve never been able to keep it up.... until now....

The dukan diet for me has been brilliant... i bought the book...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dukan-Diet-Dr-P ... 096&sr=1-1

and have been posting over in health and fitness...

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=287956&start=330

there are 4 phases to this diet... actually I’m sure if even diet is the correct name for it.... it’s more of a re train your brain etc...

let me know if you want further information... i promise if you just give it a try you will be impressed!

I started back to my healthy eating plan and I posted a while ago about my mission to have a body like Rihanna's by Christmas and I am still on that mission :o0 Seriously though, I joined the gym the day after that thread and got very strict on diet. I am on track and was thinking of joining a thread in health and fitness but this will be perfect now. I follow The Primal Blueprint which is a variation of the Paleo Diet. I've spoken about this before on here so won't go into details for fear of boring the pants of yis unless someone has a question of course. So I've already lost a bit of weight - I'm heading home today and will be weighing myself tomorrow morning. Last Wednesday I weighed myself at 10st 10lbs that was down 6 from the previous week so really happy with that.

Being away from home makes it so easy to diet. I only buy good stuff and don't drink over here now so that has stopped me from straying off the caveman path. I also have a bit more free time than I would in Ireland so I go to the gym nearly every day over here which has definitely given me a real boost.

I looked up the Dukan diet myself as was intrigued by it - seems to be quite similiar to The Atkin's Plan only instead of full fat foods he encourages low fat choices and oat bran is a daily requirement , I think, but could be wrong Sara you can correct me there! The attack phase is almost identical to Atkins Induction phase only that they swap high fat for low fat - it did seem quite restrictive to me and that's why I gave it a miss.

BOR... i suppose you are right, it is kina like the Atkins diet..... but on the Atkins etc, you could have fry’s etc... you cannot have any fatty meats on Dukan.... all extra lean like chicken, less than 5% fat red meat etc.... personally i don’t find it restrictive at all..... it reintroduces all the carbs etc later on in the diet, to be honest its working well for me at the mo.... i feel much better, don’t feel as bloated, and am losing weight... 4 girls i work with did it last year... they look fab and plus they have all kept off the weight without being too careful....

I suppose for me it now makes me more conscious of what i actually eat.... and so far it working wonders for me... O-O

hi girls Im doing the 17 day diet. Ive lost 8lbs in the last week although Ive only started sticking to it properly since last Monday. I feel great. Its basically:

For the first 17 days:

no carbs
2 pieces of fruit a day
2 actimel or probiotic yogurt
as much veg as you can
as much salad as you can
eat protein with main meals - lean turkey, chicken, tuna, salmon etc
2 litres of water a day
17 mins exercise a day

Yes it can be hard at times but the good thing is that you detox quick and see results quick so uit helps with motivation when you are craving a chinese!!!

Im terrible with diets but Im finding this the best. Also if you fall off the wagon you can get back on and undo the damage fast.

Its based on 17 day cycles.....the first 17 is the most restrictive and after that you re-introduce carbs.

I need to jump on the bandwagon here. My mum keeps telling me not to diet before Xmas but I'm just not happy as I am! :o( I managed to get 10lbs off last year in 3/4 weeks through WW but I've just plateaued. After losing the 10 lbs (and keeping them off!) I can get into my size 12 jeans but still feel self conscious as I feel I'm pouring out over the sides! Also to fit into my wedding dress next June, I'll realistically need to be more a size 10 than a size 12.

I've been really good for the past 2-3weeks, walking fast 3 times a week for half an hour (from doing absolutely no exercise), not eating chocolate, takeaways (used to have one once-twice a week :-8 ) or drinking but have lost absolutely nothing. I know I need a good, solid diet plan to stick to but am so bewildered with all the variety out there! HELP!!

I think Primal Blueprint is excellent Zumba. You can eat as much veg as you like 2-3 pieces of fruit a day, eggs and meat in abundance and you can have high fat dairy if you are not lactose or dairy intolerant. The science behind this is what makes me love it more. If you read the book then you will see just how good this plan is - he also has a fitness regime, which includes 1. lifting heavy things 2. Play, rest or move slowly 3. Sprints Here is a link to his fitness plan: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-b ... an-basics/

You can find everything you need to know on his website for free or you can buy the book to have all the info to hand.

A typical day for me:

Breakfast:

2 or 3 egg omlette with tomatoes and full fat cheddar.
Coffee with dash of hot milk or cream
Apple.

Lunch:

Chicken/prawn salad with egg, tomatoes, humous and veg sticks.
Naked bar (made with fruit and nuts only!)

Dinner:

Chicken Korma with cauliflower rice (you have have sweet potatoes if you like but I just prefer no carbs in the evenings.)
Berries with cream and 70% cocoa sprinkled on top.

I now know i can not eat what i want and still loose weight :o0 .

Yeah - maybe put up our present weight and then we all pick a day to weigh and put it up? Everyone agree? then we can swap recipes, fitness plans etc whenever we like.
