Just we'd I'd get a lactations consultant to look at baby re the tongut tie. My dd2 had mild tongue tie which used make her click and clamp it drove me nuts but it eased with time and she always gained weight. Wolfing down bottle does NOT mean she is hungry. Most babies will do this as they don't have to suck hard it just flows into their mouth and it tastes good!! I know what the anxiety is like but if baby is gaining weight I wouldn't worry at all. They go thru periods of feeding more and less and lots of growth spurts for the first three months or so. You kind of need to trust that if ur feeding her on demand and she is gaining u are doing it right!!
Winter I feel for u so so much. With dd1 I had an awful awful time for the first four weeks and only for the encouragement I got from mum and dh and nobody ever telling me to give a bottle I don't know how I'd have done it. I'd express or use shield on left until healed. Also go to every breeding support group you can and have a lactation cons come and help u. Any chance it might be breast thrush?? Did u have antibiotics? If u have a cut on nipple it can get in that way too and the pain is excruciating just awful. I had this both times at the start and I cried inconsolably during every feed for first few weeks. Kellymom have section on thrush. Take nurofen, try to feed in bath, try rugby hold, I used find ice cube on sore side just before feed helped too .

How would I know if I had thrush?
Still breastfeeding. Left breast still really sore, cut not as bad but whole breast now hurts. Hate even thoughts of feed. Finding it difficult to get DD to empty left breast so have to express at least once a day so to prevent block ducts/mastitis. Dont know if Im doing the right thing (to be honest Im even sure what Im doing!) Lactation consultant & phn are both on holidays this week.
She fed all day yesterday(hope it was her 3 week growth spurt, couldn't do too many days like that). This didnt help breast as it wasn't really fit for been used that much.
Not getting much support(other than from DH) as neither mum or MiL breastfed and both keep saying 'just give her a bottle' the other thing I keep 'babies should only be fed every 4 hours, you seem to be feeding her all the time'!

Justwed-I agrre that you should speak with a lactation consultant, I definitely think shes the reason Im still feeding(even if Im still struggling) The first thing she checked was to see if DD was tongue tight.

Another recommendation Id make is the book 'what to expect when you're breast-feeding...and what to expect if you can't?' I bought it on Amazon, it makes sense of so many things/problems.

Hi there, my little fella will be 8 weeks tomorrow, this past 2 or 3 nights, I have put him down at 10 and he has woken at 1 and 3 just shuffling about, his eyes are not open and he doesn’t cry so I just give him the dummy to get another few mins…. Is this ok?? Last nite, he went down at 10, woke me with his shuffling about at 1 and 3.30. Again I gave him the dummy and at 5.45 he woke crying which I guessed was a hunger cry.. do u think in any of your experiences it is ok to pacify him with the dummy during the night.. if he was hungry im sure he would cry.. yeah?? Im bf him and he feeds well during the day plus is gaining plenty of weight??? Advice please…

It I fine I think!! I did it with both mine and you'll find if he is genuinely hungry he won't be happy with the dummy and will let u know!!

If possible mayb try to settle him without the dodi, mayb just gently putting a hand on his cheek! The last wk or so I'm up I'd say 10 times a night sticking dodis back in - my own fault, used to give them to them (have twin girls in same cot) when they were mooching in case they'd wake up or wake each other and the past number of nights I'm paying the price I can tell ya!

Ye I'd agree with Eliza try something else first as it def makes them dodi addicted. I took dodi off them both at four months for this reason ! But I did find it great when they were small for settling them.

Hi girls
Has anyone ever experienced carpal tunnel syndrome from breastfeeding? My DS is 6 months and I have awful pains and numbness in my right hand during the night and in the morning. It's fine during the day. I didn't have it when I was pregnant but a couple of months after he was born I noticed it and it's definitely getting worse, probably because he is getting heavier! I don't think there's much that can be done apart from nurofen to reduce swelling and a wrist splint. I know you can have an operation in extreme cases. I just wanted to know if it was normal enough and if it will go away once I stop. It's waking me and I feel really tired as I'm not getting great sleep between waking to feed and waking from pain.

Hi ladies

I have a questions about expressing milk. I'm trying to build up a supply of breast milk as I'm going on a hen in a few weeks. So I'm trying to express after breastfeeding during the day. But just wondering is it ok to express from both sides after a feed or should I only express from the side that I have just fed from? If I express from the other breast too does that mean I won't have enough milk for the next feed?

another problem.. oh the joys...
in the mornings after feeding etc, i tend to go visiting my mam or into town to do little jobs.
As my LO is in the car, he sleeps no problem... its just this am that i noticed as i was in the house all morning, i found it difficult to settle him off to sleep.. do u feed ur LO and then just put them down to sleep. before this, i feed, put them in a bouncer, playmat and then he usually tired himself out and went down but it seems now, he is over tired and cries and ive to take him in my arms and rock him back to sleep.....

Maria I used express once a day at about eight from side she hadn't just fed from so say at six pm I fed from left then at eight I expressed from right and fed from left again next time. If u do it at same time every day your supply will increase to meet the demand.
Beechwood what age is your lo?? Both mine didn't settle well for naps at home till they were over three months. They slept better in buggy car or sling. At three or four months I started settling them for naps in cot but it took them a few weeks to get into it.

Lur- yes, I had/ have carpal tunnel syndrome too from breasteeding. It's a lot better now than it was when LO was younger though. It started maybe a month after she was born- numbness in my fingers in the morning, extremely painful wrists. My right wrist is still a bit painful but it has improved immensely, I'm sure it's because my DD feeds so much less now (3 times a day).

When it was really bad, I got splints which helped, but as time went on they actually started making my wrists stiffer so I stopped using them.

I'm sure as time goes on & your DS drops feeds it'll start to improve- it is horrible though, especially when there isn't too much you can do about it.
