  • Where is my mind

    Wednesday 6 May 2022 - Uncategorized - Tags: None

It's been so super stressful here in the office this week with the mag going to print on Tuesday! At the moment I'm just living for this place this evening

    Blue light

    The Blue Light

It's become my local since moving half my wardrobe to his place for 'storage'. The walk up is a little straining for someone as mobidly unfit as myself but the quiet woods, majestic trees, quaint house and nooks and crannies along the way more than make up for it. The Blue Light sits on top of Sandyford overlooking Dublin Harbour. The Guinness is good and sometimes locals bring their dogs in. They all know each other (I think) and you can bring your own crisps without anyone batting an eyelid. It also has a nice warm fire to cure what ales ya. There's no place like home, there's no place like home....

  • The New Swap Shop

    Wednesday 6 May 2022 - Uncategorized - Tags: None

We may not have bucketloads of disposable cash to shell out to all the high street stores we pass on the way to Lidl, but that doesn't mean we can't have new outfits!!! Yep, it's a woman's way to find solutions to even the most impossible missions (Just think if Tom Cruise was a woman we mightn't have had to endure the 2nd installment of the M.I series...), and when it comes to clothes, where there's a will....

I came upon this site while reading my free (free being the operative word) Metro this morning. Basically we've all tired out our friend's wardrobes so much that some genious, in the form of www.bigwardrobe.com) has opened the wardrobes of stylish gal's all over the world. And we never wore the same outfit again...

Here's a sneak peak of what's on offer:

  • Come Rain or Shine...

    Tuesday 28 April 2022 - Supplier Spotlight - Tags: real-wedding

Evonne Bruton & Jonathon Holland tie the knot.

Come rain or shine Come rain or shine

    Dress from White Orchid.

Photos from Roslyn Byrne, Couple.ie"It was the worst gale blowing Ireland has had in years and we were having a wedding ceremony in a marquee!"

It was the worst wind and rain Ireland has known in 91 years, but Evonne Bruton and Jonathan Holland decided they were not going to let the elements ruin their big day. Proving that no matter what the weather brings, with the love of your life by your side and an easy going attitude, it is always possible to have the wedding of your dreams.

"Friends had to stop their car on the way to the wedding to move a tree off the road, and there wasn't a hope of our helicopter making it! We kept thinking the weather would get better but it only got worse as the day wore on," Evonne remembers.

Their relationship has always had a good amount of excitement; the couple met through a good mutual friend who thought they would make a great couple. After much persuasion, Evonne allowed her number to be given to Jonathan and after even more persuasion, Jonathan called her.

"From the first conversation as I sat in Pearse Street Station, trying to have a conversation over the moving trains, we got on well. Our first meeting was in Caf en Seine on Wednesday, 26th January 2005, the huge wave of emotion that we felt as we met for the first time was incredible. We both knew that this was something very real and very big." Evonne says.

  • Our Favourite seating cards

    Tuesday 28 April 2022 - Stationery - Tags: seating-cards, guests

These seating cards are all so jolly and fun and , perhaps more importantly, are great for those who don't want to spend too much on the little things. Deligation is the key to good wedding planning so get some of your family/friends involved too!!!

    Seating cardsSeating cards

Lilac Wedding (l). These double as a little inexpensive wedding favour. Wrap in a little green bow and attached two strips of card -one with the name, one with the table number. Little seats are so darling (r). Probably the cutest thing we found this week, these seats are a perfect way to show your guests to theirs. Made with a little pice of card, the names are on the back of the chair, the table numbers on the bums. Sweetness.

Briefcases and bags. (l) Corkage. (r) Use old corks (or new ones if you've enough!) to place your seating cards. Cut the bottom so they stand upright. Chic.

Handwritten. (l) Get some of your freinds to write the place settings. The more unusual the writing the better. Just make sure they all use the same pen colour to give it continuity! Peg Pinching.(r) If you're having an outdoor blessing before your dinner, why not display your place settings with strings and pegs. You can use domestice pegs or try the WeddingsOnline.ie shop for other colours.

    I came across lots of blogs for preparation inspiration. I found this invitation;

Photo Invite on blisstree.com that reminded me of a certain college romance. Diana

    Dirty Diana

I bought a Diana+ camera about a year ago with the full intention of becoming a succesful art house photographer. After reading the manual and procrastinating more than one should have the ability to however I confined it to the top of my wardrobe praying never to gaze upon its retro plastic body again.

This weekend, while cleaning out my room in a desperate attempt to get my life together, I came upon my Diana+, lying on her side, like an old forgotten TV starlett from a 60s drama series, the sunken sidekick who never got the break she deserved.

Long story short, I bought her some 120 film, took her out to the countryside and started snapping.

Today I'm going to Gunns on Wexford street to get her developed. Wish me luck and stay tuned.

  • Southern Charm

    Tuesday 31 March 2022 - Real Weddings - Tags: real-wedding, usa

Even though I am American, the southern states are completely foreign to me. I am from the west, where anything over 75 years old is considered ancient. The South has always interested me. I like the culture and comforting vibe it has and even though I have spent little time there it seems like a beautiful place(and the accents can be adorable!) I found this South Carolina wedding on Classic Bride and think it personifies a lot of what is so appealing about the South. It's beautiful!

I love cobalt blue and this table setting is a good example of why. It is so crisp, clean and sophisticated. This shoot photographed by the wonderful Marie Labbancz would be perfect for a summer garden wedding.

  • Fallon's Blog: Who'll Give Her Away?

    Thursday 25 September 2022 - Fallon's Blog, Advice - Tags: fallons-blog, fallon-wasser, real-bridal-blogger

Fallon Wasser, WOL's very own, fabulous bridal blogger is marrying Darren Dunne on December 7th, 2012 (lucky guy!). Fallon is taking us on her wedding planning journey, and this week she reveals who she has asked to give her away, she also gets her wedding invites ready for sending and tries on her wedding dress again!

    Gabe Aceves Photography

I really don’t know where the time has gone these past few weeks, there’s been so much happening but before I get into that let me give you an update on the ‘giving me away’ situation that I wrote about in my last blog post (click to have a little look-see). Like I said, there wasn’t really a lot of thinking to do on my part. My cousin Nick is a year-and-a-bit younger than me. We grew up together along with his sister Emma who is my chief bridesmaid. We spent every Saturday together in my Nan’s and we spent our summers for about 16 years in my auntie’s mobile home in Wexford. They are the closest thing I have to a brother and sister and I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without them. Of course, when I called him I was nervous but I shouldn’t have been. He was shocked but delighted, and accepted the task of walking me - or maybe even strutting with me - down the aisle. He’s already working on the speech!

    Hectic

With that part done and dusted, the last couple of weeks have been hectic on the wedding planning front. I collected my navy invites from Daintree Paper, they are just how I wanted them! My two soon to be sister-in-laws and one of my bezzie mates, Shel helped me put them together - well to be honest, they did all the hard grafting and I just made the tea. We just had to glue the inserts and tie a little bit of ribbon on. I still have a little bit to do on them but I hope to get them all off in the post this week. Then it will definitely be official that we are getting married! Woop!

I also went back to try my dress on - swoon! Goodness, gracious I still really love it. It felt great trying it on, I had my shoes and jewellery with me so I could see the whole look. I decided on my head dress, which I’m going to keep under wraps for the moment and had a make-up trial, which I was really pleased about. It’s all coming together!

    Afters

I also attended the afters of a wedding last weekend of a close friend’s sister, Niamh O'Sullivan who was getting married to Paul Ledwith.  It’s mad that as soon as you’re getting married yourself you pay so much more attention to other weddings. The bride was so beautiful, she looked flawless and we had a great night. Makes me look forward to mine even more - 11 weeks and counting!

  • Wollies Dating Disasters

    Monday 8 September 2022 - Advice - Tags: funny-dating-stories, weddingsonline-forums

We love heading into the WeddingsOnline Forums for a look at the latest goings-on in our Wollie’s lives. It’s a great place to share wedding ideas and the girls there offer great advice on every topic imaginable - and we mean everything!

So you can imagine our delight when we logged on to a whole host of hilarious disaster dating stories. After a lot of rolling around the office in hysterics and wiping mascara stained cheeks of joy, we decided to put up a select few for you to enjoy, but it’s definitely worth logging on to see the rest!

    WOL Scenario 1:

I once had a guy pick me up after work so we could go for dinner. I was looking forward to it, so you can image my surprise when he pulled into the Tesco car park and we went inside to pick up Tesco's Finest Chinese for dinner.

He then took me back to his house. He had failed to mention that he still lived with his parents, who ended up sharing the Chinese with us!

    WOL Scenario 2:

I went out with an accountant once who was the meanest, most penny-pinching tight man you could ever meet. In the six months we were together he brought me out once, for Valentines Day, for takeaway pizza, which we ate in the street, so we could save the extra euro to "eat in".

This could have been romantic, lovely even, if it wasn't snowing and freezing and if I hadn't been listening to him b*tch about the cost of restaurants. Oh and also, if he hadn't been building me up all week with talk of a "special romantic night out".

    Wol

    WOL Scenario 3:

A friend of mine was out for dinner with a fella, who told her that he was a bit broke so if she wouldn't mind ordering something "cheap" off the menu.

She ordered an omelette. He ordered a steak!

    WOL Scenario 4:

I went on a couple of dates with a guy around Christmas time. On our third date he produced a beautifully wrapped present. I was getting a bit freaked out because it was way too early to be getting presents. Anyway, I opened it and it was a new mobile phone. There was nothing wrong with my mobile and I knew I was due an upgrade soon.

So I said: “Thanks very much. I hope it wasn't too expensive.”

He replied: "It was free actually. I used your upgrade to get it".

I nearly fell off my chair. He had gone into the shop and signed me up for another year's contract, which I would have to pay! I had to spend the evening on the phone trying to cancel everything. Needless to say he was binned after that.

  • A Mad Quiet Evening - Silent Disco Weddings in Ireland

    Thursday 15 May 2022 - Uncategorized - Tags: None

    silent disco wedding

As Glastonbury gives way to The Olympics and Oxegen steps aside for...the better... some fiendish festival goers may be feeling a little hallow on their quest for musical fun this summer. So, we think, if there was ever a gathering to replace a weekend of good-times, it would surely have to be an off-the-chart wedding celebration (do people still say off-the-chart? Did people ever say off-the-chart?) Think about it, we have the wellies and wedding dress combo down, and the sexy sunglass-wearing groomsmen almost come as standard, so why not bump it up a notch and add so more festival-like revelry to the mix? Although, technically speaking, you’ll be taking it down a notch.

The Irishman behind Headphone Disco, Bob Coggins, brought the unusually hushed merriment of the silent disco to the nightclub scene about four years ago and this year has started filling wedding venue dance floors with confusingly joyful guests after a curious request from a work mate. "One of the girls in work was getting married in a venue with a curfew,” recalls Bob, “which meant they couldn’t have any amplified music after 1.30am. The thing was, they had a bar that ran until 3.30am. So we brought the kit and two DJs along and had the place rocking ‘til sunrise.”

“It was amazing - the dance floor was twice as full for the silent disco as the normal disco. Everyone made the floor their own, dancing to one of the two tunes on offer, while older guest chatted and laughed while looking on in relative silence!"

The beauty of the silent disco is that you can provide your guests with two types of music, played by two separate DJs, or iPod playlists, through their headphones, while not making any noise at all in the venue. It’s perfect for venues with curfews or for partying outdoors.

The silent disco can be adapted to suit any venue, outdoor or indoor and for any number of guests from 30 to 1500. All you need is one electric plug for the transmitter and DJ.

Headphone Disco also run Silent Cinema, where you can watch two films side by side (for the younger guests perhaps?), and Silent Sales in Kildare village, where the shoppers can bop away to the tunes on offer while wandering the shops, only interrupted by the occasional special offer called out by the DJ.

Silent Disco from Headphone Disco starts from €300.
