When we saw this amazing real wedding on the Ruffled blog we fell head over heels in love. The couple got married in Long Beach, California. The groom, Jonathan, is a jeweller who made all of the groomsmen’s cufflinks, the centrepieces and the altar, while Amy, the beautiful bride, took on the flower arrangements.
They lined the altar with Amy’s grandmother’s quilt, which was also used in their engagement session and it was their main source of inspiration for their wedding. She wore a vintage wedding dress she found in Chile and had it altered with added flutter sleeves. Her amazing yellow birdcage veil is to die for! Incredible photographs by Chad Cress.

Every single day I look at my favourite wedding blogs, weekends included. And I am not the only one. Brides love to think about their weddings more than just about anything else (all you have to do is take a look at WeddingsOnline.ie to see that’s true) and the constantly fresh nature of blogs is right up their alley. As the editor of a wedding magazine, blogs connect me with the wedding world. They let me know what’s going on, and show me who’s hot in weddings. I find many of the images and weddings that we feature in B Magazine from blogs. If I see something I like I will ask the photographer if we can print the images in the magazine or the blog with a prominent credit, giving them additional publicity and press for their portfolio. If you are a photographer and you don’t have a wedding blog...it’s time to get one and here is why.
1. Web sites are annoying. Yes, every business should have one, but sites aren’t the best way to see a large quantity of images in a short amount of time. And, I am sorry to say (especially since 90% of photographers have them) flash sites are incredibly frustrating to use. They may look pretty, but most people won’t wait a minute for each image to load; they want to see everything, immediately (or as close as possible).
2. Your clients are browsing. The main resource brides and grooms use for wedding plans is the web, and if your presence is not strong, they simply won’t find you. But if you are linked on other blogs, on WeddingsOnline.ie and easily found in a Google search, you are vastly expanding your presence.
3. More traffic. If I am looking for cool wedding images for my blog and decide to take them from your blog (with credit and links to your site), you not only increase your searchability on the web, but will get more clicks to your site. You will also get traffic if you post one of your recent weddings on your blog and the couple tells their family and friends to check it out; they might post it on their facebook profile, twitter or MySpace, and the cycle continues!
4. Your photos are most important. As a photographer, your portfolio is what will ultimately sell you to a bride. A blog is a quick and easy way to show your work without the confines of galleries and albums on a site. Each wedding you shoot should get a blog entry, so it’s there for anyone who wants to see it.
5. Blogs give you personality. Displaying your prices, history and accomplishments on a static webpage is not enough anymore. Brides want to see your businesses personality. When you blog you are building a relationship without trying to sell them anything.
6. Blogging builds brand recognition and makes you an expert. When you have a repertoire of posts, you build your reputation as an expert in the industry. You become the person who gives out advice and has amazing photos; and above all, has credibility.
7. Networking. Whether it’s with brides and grooms, fellow photographers, journalists or other wedding suppliers; a blog will connect you with more people in the wedding industry.
8. Blogging generates business. If it comes down to you and another photographer, the bride will choose the photographer they are most familiar with. When they Google your name and pages and pages of entries come up, it establishes you as the most reliable and logical choice. If they only see 20 images on the other photographer’s web page and see your whole portfolio on your blog, you are the person they know the most about and the clear best choice.

After that wedding last month, tiaras are officially back in vogue. Whereas for many brides tiaras are seen as being a bit too traditional, Kate showed us they can be worn with sophistication, simplicity and class. If you are still airing on the side of caution, hair-wise, you can easily do a take on the tiara with gorgeous pins, headbands, and slides. Now few of us can hit the stores and find ourselves a vintage Cartier fit for a Queen, but not to worry, there are so many brilliant Irish designers creating delicate pieces to adorn the crowns of brides today that we needn’t lose any sleep!
And what better way to see these stunning pieces than on the brides themselves?! Compiled by Karen Birney

Venezuelan-born American designer Carolina Herrera wanted to create a gown for every personality in her Spring 2012 collection. Her traditional styles were given a twist with added block colour and unusual accents. The princess dress was a major theme throughout -we can definately see Kate Middleton wearing one of these when she gets married in two weeks time!

So it's nearly two weeks until one of the biggest weddings of the decade (beside your own, obvs) and we in WeddingsOnline HQ are speculating about every inch of Kate and William's big day. Today it's been all about the bouquet.
A Royal Wedding always has tradition at the heart of it, so with that in mind we see Kate opting for a pale bouquet, comprised of home-grown flowers. However we also think Kate will keep up with modern bridal trends for her day, so she might go with a very simple but romantic bloom, elegantly tied and with little or no extra detail. The most perfect flowers for this look are peonies and hydrangeas, which look infinately feminine and are a great look if you want something softer than a rose. We also think Kate will stay away from cascading flowers, so that she compliments, but doesn't take away from her dress (which we think will be a lot more demure than Diana's)
Lily-of-the-valley may also make an appearance in the wedding flowers, Camilla Parker Bowles used this along with primrose in her dainty bouquet, and the flower was also famously held by one Grace Kelly, queen of bridal style, on her wedding day in 1956.

There’s speculation that Fairtrade white roses from Kenya will be included, as that was where William popped the question while they were on holiday together!

Princess Diana's bouquet was made up of stephanotis and gardinias, among other flowers, and also included a sprig of Myrtle, which is a royal wedding tradition dating back to the time of Queen Victoria.
The Royal Maids
This is possibly where Kate can use some colour in her bridal wear without ruffling too many feathers! We've speculated that she may go for blue for her bridesmaids, to match the engagement ring that's made such a splash in the wedding world.
Long days, beautiful blooms and maybe even some sun! Julie Cox, Managing Director of Dublin’s premier summer wedding venue, Beaufield Mews Restaurant, Gardens & Antiques, gives her top tips for the perfect summer wedding.
Photos by Leo Patrone Photography
“For the perfect summer wedding make the most of any outdoor areas and make sure the venue has plenty of garden furniture as well as it looking pretty. There is no point in having a wonderful garden if the guests are uncomfortable standing in their high heels!” Julie Cox, Beaufield Mews Restaurant, Gardens.
“Some nice light music in the garden on arrival can make everyone immediately relax. Offer Pink Champagne or Pink Prosecco and add some fruit to the glass like blueberries for an extra special touch,” Julie says.
“Draught mini shots of Guinness are a great touch. It is literally a shot of Guinness, but it is fun and it is a new twist on the black velvet cocktail, when served alongside a glass of Champagne. We have fabulous miniature pint glasses that we serve them in.”
Planning a summer wedding outdoors in Ireland can be risky to say the least, but when you have experienced and professional people like Julie Cox fromBeaufield Mews Restaurant, Gardens & Antiques on your side, there is no fear. You can be sure that there is a Plan A, Plan B and probably a Plan D for making sure your wedding fabulous from start to finish, come rain or shine.
Planning a fabulous summer wedding is in the details according to Managing Director of Beaufield Mews, Julie Cox. Guests will remember your event if it offers them something different, something they may not have experienced at a wedding before. A great way to put that something special into your wedding is through unique menu options, like a picnic wedding!
“We have dishes like a pig on a spit and our very popular Le Pique Nique menu option where guests are handed a wicker basket, red chequered napkins, picnic blanket and they find a space on a bale of hay to enjoy a lovely range of goodies including strawberries dipped in chocolate and homemade shortbread, a selection of Irish cheeses with homemade chutneys, mini terrines along with filo parcels of spinach and feta cheese, all whilst sipping some dressed pimms!”
Assuming summer is hot (and I know that’s a big assumption) a big meal might not be what your guests want; something light and fresh would fit the bill better. Beaufield Mews offers Mini Feast Menus, which are like the Irish version of Tapas, where you get several traditional dishes with seasonal produce in smaller portions.
“The emphasis is on fun and informality with no set table plan, no set starter and definitely no ‘meat and 2 veg’! Waiters roam the garden with trays ofcanaps consisting of things like deep fried cigars with parma ham and smoked mozzarella, oriental chicken satay bites, mini tartlets of goat’s cheese and red onion, mini Seafood roulade justto name but a few. At Beaufield Mews we are committed to using local, in season produce wherever possible,” Julie says.
Weather can be the summer weddings best friend one second and worst enemy the next. Julie says you have to plan around the weather, don’t assume you will have horrible weather, and definitely don’t assume you will have great weather. Plan for both and then either way you will be prepared and happy. Beaufield Mews holds outdoor blessings and weddings under a light canopy so that even if it does rain, you can enjoy the great outdoors and stunning garden, without panicking.
